Skincare 101: What you should do for clear, glowing skin

    Monday, June 29, 2009

Great skin makes you glow - even without makeup - so you look radiant all the time. And guess what, you don't need to spend a lot of money to have great looking skin. Start by eating plenty of fruits and vegetables (they give you that healthy glow) and drink lots of water (so your skin remains hydrated and plump).

Then follow our skincare tips on what you should do every day, week and month.

    Daily - Wash and moisturize
Keep your face and body clean by washing twice daily - once in the morning and another time in the evening - to remove all traces of pore-clogging makeup and dust that can lead to those dreaded pimples. You can use any facial cleanser (just make sure that it's suitable for your skin type) or take a cue from the tres chic French models.

Keep a pot of powdered milk next to your sink and wash your face with a mixture of the powder and water for soft and smooth skin. Also, don't forger to moisturize, moisturize, moisturize every time after washing.

Applying some scented body oil right after your shower will lock in all that precious moisture and keep your skin smelling sweet all day long.

    Weekly - Scrub and moisturize
Exfoliate to remove dead skin (and reveal brighter, smoother skin) by using a scrub for your face, neck and body. Want to make your own? Just mix some olive oil with some sugar (make sure to use a finer grain sugar for the delicate skin on your face and neck) and apply to damp skin.

Pay close attention to your elbows, knees and underarms – these areas tend to get dark faster - but don't immediately wash off the scrub when you're done. Leave it on until ALL the sugar's fully dissolved. Then rub in the remaining olive oil to moisturize your skin.

Using a store-bought scrub? Apply some rich body lotion or body oil after scrubbing to rehydrate.

Monthly - Steam, scrub and mask
Treat yourself to a facial. Or you can do it right at home. Start by steaming your face - pour boiling hot water into a basin, place your face right above the basin and cover your head and the basin with a towel.

The steam will open up your pores so immediately follow with a scrub to deeply cleanse your skin. Wash your face with cold water to close up your pores and finish with a super moisturizing mask.

Try mashing some bananas and honey and leaving it on for 20 minutes for a great smelling tropical mask.

Want a moisturizing and cooling mask? Refrigerate the mixture 30 minutes before applying.
